What we do : rehabilitation

Beautiful Tomorrow Trust was started with the idea of expanding the support services offered to Breast/ Gynecological Cancer patients. The attempt was to facilitate the path back to normal life. For this it is necessary that the lady be able to view as something that happened to her and that has been dealt with as best as is possible (given the state at which it was detected). The trust would facilitate the coming together of women with a similar experience, who could empower each other and enrich lives. Talking to others who have gone through the same experience helps; the sharing very often creates a bond and facilitates a degree of openness, which in itself is a healing process;

Cancer Rehabilitation services are key:

  • Cancer rehabilitation services are now seen as a standard part of the cancer care continuum. For patients, for example, it is seen as equally important to receive cancer rehabilitation as it is to receive chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
  • Community-based cancer rehabilitative services offer integrated and holistic care to address the physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients.
  • Cancer rehabilitation services complement existing services offered by hospitals, but offered in the community - for instance, for when they are discharged, issues such as accessibility and transportation can be addressed.
  • To have a coordinated and integrated effort in managing rehabilitation so that patients can experience the benefits of early rehabilitation.

The rehabilitation program is designed to empower women to regain their sense of self and to:

  • Assist the physical, functional and/or emotional challenges that may arise as a consequence of treatment.
  • Identify and modify lifestyle behaviours in order to improve quality of life and minimise the risk of cancer recurrence.
  • Provide education and self reflection activities to ensure patients are aware of their individual needs and develop strategies to address these.
  • Be flexible and tailored to meet the individual needs of patients.
  • Link patients into local services and supports.
