What we do : awareness

All too often, when the doctor utters the word 'Cancer', what the patient hears is "you are dying". The fact is though, Cancer is a dreaded disease and second most cause of death, next to Heart disease, globally, but, if diagnosed early and timely treated and followed up systematically, it is curable to a large extent. The fear often arises out of ignorance and misconceptions, rather than any reality.

Through its work at grass-root level, Beautiful Tomorrow Trust came to realize that one of the main problems in India, in the control of cancer was ignorance regarding early diagnosis, lifestyle & nutrition. With the second highest incidence of cancers is the Cervical Cancer, next to Breast Cancer in women which can be prevented by screening and vaccination.

From this realization emerged Beautiful Tomorrow Trust's Awareness and Early Detection efforts. Over the years, Beautiful Tomorrow Trust has invested a great deal of thought and effort into developing ways to raise public awareness about cancer and how it can be prevented.

Some of the ways to raise public awareness:

  • Lectures: As part of our preventive program, we regularly conduct health and cancer awareness lectures and sessions at various schools, industries and public places at large and empower them to take responsibility for their own health
  • Cancer Screening Camps: Beautiful Tomorrow Trust conduct cancer detection camps and awareness generation programs in association with various dispensaries, hospitals etc .
  • Teaching self breast examination, Pap smear test and advocating vaccination for prevention of cervical cancer.
  • Information materials: Pamphlets and other educational materials (printed in local languages) distributed and awareness talks given by experts in a manner easily understood by the illiterate and partly educated masses.
  • Putting up posters in the schools, colleges and hospitals, and public places where a lot of footfalls occur daily.
